In the Hanged Man we find a youth up-side down suspended by one foot from a T-cross made of living wood. He holds his arms folded behind his back, and one leg crossed behind his other thigh forming a cross. The Hanged Man is still earthbound for his foot is attached to the T-cross. The measure of perfection he has attained is not yet the complete freedom shown in later cards. The man now initiated, stands as a responsible co-worker with the Divine principle. He must now take his part in the world's redemption. We still find the initiate reversed here at the Twelfth step along the path. However, he must ultimately stand on his own feet. When present in a spread, it tells of a pause in one's life. And being able to look above present situations and conditions. A time of great foresight and stamina. |
