"Open
for me slightly your heart,
And I'll open the world for you"
The
Book of "Zohar"
| Who am I and what is
the purpose of my existence? How have we appeared here
and where do we go from here? Is it not possible that we
have already been in this world before? Can we really
know ourselves, the universe, why man suffers and is it
possible to avoid the suffering? How can mankind as a
whole or as individuals find the peace, the satisfaction,
the luck it so yearns for through its' entire lifetime?
How can we attain tranquility, fulfillment, love, health
and/or happiness? Many people through out history have attempted to find answers to these persistently haunting questions, and the very fact that this happens from generation to generation signals that we still have not found any satisfactory answers. We study nature, the cosmo and we find that everything that surrounds us exists and functions in accordance with strict, purposeful, universal laws. We have the tendency to regard ourselves nature's crowning glory and we regard humanity as if it were outside this Universal system. All that surrounds us is permitted by the cause and effect relation: nothing is created without a purpose, in the world of physical bodies there exists definite laws of motion, dynamics, rotation. A similar logic exists in the plant and animal kingdom. And let us not forget the cosmos which works in perfect harmony to these laws. But the primary and most basic question, i.e. for what purpose does all this exist? Not only for ourselves but also the entire world which surrounds us - the enigma still remains an without an answer. Can you truthfully believe that there could be a person in the world who has never, at least once during his lifetime, pondered this question? Scientific theories continues to maintain that the world is governed by invariable physical laws. That we are unable to affect these laws. That at best it is our sole purpose to wisely utilize those laws to live out our allotted life-span, and make the way a little easier for future generations. But for what end? "Did humanity develop by way of evolution of the simplest forms" ,or "was life brought from other planets" or...the questions are always with us, but the answers still elude us. There are two important dates in the life of every living entity - birth and death, and what occurs between these two dates is unique and, therefore, precious. It is easy to see that life is nothing if after it played out a lifetime, there is an end, darkness, precipice? Where is the wise, all-envisioning, logical Nature, that creates nothing in vain? Or, are there laws and goals that still exist undiscovered? We study and analyze the world's reaction to our actions, which we perceive by our five senses: touch, smell, sight, hearing, and taste, and at times by instruments that increase their range. All that is beyond these senses in our studies is not perceived by us at all, it does not exist as far as we are concerned. Moreover, we are unable to miss any lacking senses, because we cannot miss what we do not know. For this reason man will never discover hidden forms of nature by the methods at his disposal. The Kabbalah teaches that the spiritual worlds do exist, but are not perceived by our organs of sense. In fact, the Kabbalah teaches that we deal with Four Worlds every day of our lives. These are the worlds of information, thoughts and feelings, affecting us through material laws of nature and places us in certain situations that determine the way we act. |
