An astrological horoscope is a circular chart of 360 degrees. This circle is divided into twelve sections of approximately 30 degrees in each of the twelve sections which are known as houses.

Looking at the circle, there are several important angles to astrologers. The four Cardinal points on the first, fourth, seventh and tenth houses, mark the seasonal changes of the Earth. The Ascendant (the east point), the Descendant (the west point), The IC (inum coeli, the north point), and the MC (median coeli or midheaven - the south point) make up what are known as the angular houses.

The houses directly following the angular houses are known as the Succedent houses. (Houses two, five, eight, and eleven) Directly following the succedent houses are the cadent houses. (Houses three, six, nine and twelve. Thus we have: an angular house, a succedent house, a cadent house, and then it starts over again in a cycle throughout the circle.

Each of the twelve individual sections - houses - represents different areas of life for the native. It is said the first six houses (one through six) represent matters related personality to the native. The second set of six houses (seven through twelve) represent matters of the outside world to the native.
